Mothering Ourselves
Posted May 12, 2024On Saturday morning, a colleague (Heather Skoll), asked me “What does Mother’s Day mean to you?” In that moment, the theme for this newsletter was born.
I answered that I’ve been pondering this recently. Celebrating mothers and the “feminine within each of us” isn’t meant to only happen one day a year. Taking care of and mothering ourselves needs to happen every day. When we take care of ourselves, we can live our best lives.

Plus, we all have a common mother: Mother Earth, Terra, Tonantzin, Pachamama, and Gaia. What ever name you have for our beautiful overarching and underreaching mother, she is here to support us from the outside in and the inside out.
On Mother’s Day morning, Steve, a couple of friends, and I went for a walk at the Guelph arboretum. Spring flowers were in magnificent bloom (lilacs, red bud, viburnum, crabapples, magnolia, pawpaws, trillium, jack in the pulpit, May apple, wild ginger, columbine, plus many more). We all enjoyed breathing in the fragrant smells, allowing these aromas and sights to bring us into the present moment. Steve, one friend, and I lay on the earth.

We enjoyed the warmth of the sun on our skin, the coolness of the morning breeze, the moisture in the morning dew, and the strength of the earth beneath us.
Whether you are a biological mom, a step-mom, a mother to be, a parent of a furry four-legged, a plant nurturer, or learning to re-mother your inner child, we all need support and love. How can you “mother” and nourish yourself more?
Now, ask yourself “What does Mother’s Day mean to you?” Enjoy this moment of self-reflection and self-nurturing!
Below is an “Inner Seed Meditation” to provide external support remembering how to nurture your inner brightness.
Happy Mother’s day today and everyday,
Roxana
